With more than 300 million active monthly users, who wouldn’t want to have the power to Instagram like a designer and make your brand stand out?

If you're a marketer, you want to be on a platform that receives 58 times more engagement for branded content per follower than Facebook and 120 times more engagement per follower than Twitter! And the good news is that it’s easy.

Reach into your pocket and pull out the one thing you can’t bear to live without, your smart phone. Not only does it hold all of your apps, contacts and texts, but it also holds the power to turn an ordinary photo into an extraordinary heart-worthy pic.

All it takes are a few tricks to get the perfect picture. Ready to learn how? Say “1... 2... 3... Cheese!”

Your Instagram Starter Guide

1. Start with Quality

Instagram only allows users to upload square images, meaning you have to make the most of your photo real estate. No one wants to view grainy, low-quality images!

Ensure the highest quality possible on all devices by making your pictures at least 640px by 640px. Ideally, it is important to note that Instagram photos that are 900px by 900px are best due to the fact that networks automatically resize them for larger screens. Therefore, you want to avoid losing quality at all costs by uploading larger square images.

2. Keep it Simple

Steve Jobs always said “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” Don’t overcrowd your photo with too many objects or focus points.

Keep things simple and showcase your creativity by playing around with different angles. Finding the right angle can make your photo more intriguing and visually interesting for viewers, encouraging them to engage with your post.

Don't just stick to the typical eye level shots! Try taking the photo from different heights to visually change things up. Your photos will be more interesting, because people are not accustomed to looking at objects at a high or low angle. Here, we will take a look at the edgy clothing store, Nasty Gal and how the company uses different angles to showcase their products.

Try a high angle photo...

3. Be Fabulous with Filters

With a vast amount of Instagram filters and the ability to adjust a photo’s saturation, contrast, shadows, and more, the end result of your photo is entirely up to you and depends on your brand image.

Some brands require bold colors while others prefer more of a matte finish with less color depth. Not to mention, some do not even need a filter. The key is to be consistent with the types of filters you use to stay on brand.

Once you have taken your photo at an interesting angle and chosen the appropriate filter, all that’s left is to upload it. Whatever you choose to do, stay true to your brand and make your product the focal point to draw all eyes on what’s most important.
