What is Joomla?

Content Management Systems are used to manage the content of a web site. Usually, a content management system, or CMS, has two sections. The first is a content management application allowing an administrator who does not know coding or HTML to manage the creation, modification, and removal of content from a web site without needing a webmaster. The other section is the CDA which uses and compiles that information to then update on the web site. Most CMS systems include format management, Web-based publishing, indexing, revision control, retrieval, and search.

Joomla! is one of the most popular, affordable, and powerful “open source” CMS systems, used internationally for the simplest and often quite complicated corporate applications. Joomla! is simple to manage and reliable because it is led by diverse members of a “Core Team” who are responsible for the products project management.

Joomla! easily allows one to manage almost every aspect of his or her web site such as updating images, adding content, updating catalogs, taking online reservations, adding calendar events, and more. Out of the box, this application does a great job managing content perfectly. But, many need customization and this is where the real power of Joomla! shows because the application framework makes it possible for thousands of programmers to create add-ons and extensions. Such extensions include dynamic form builders, document management, E-Commerce and shopping cart engines, blogging software, image galleries, email newsletters, banner advertising systems and more.
