What is Dreamweaver?

Dreamweaver is a popular web site and internet application authoring technology created by Adobe. The program is available for both Mac and Windows-based operating systems, and is a powerful tool for creating and editing HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and server-side scripting languages. Adobe Dreamweaver boasts easy integration with widely-used Adobe programs like Contribute, Flash and Shockwave, facilitating graphics and multimedia development and incorporation.

Dreamweaver is what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSIWYG) software, which allows the programmer to view a web page via the Design view while generating code. This visual approach to page editing minimizes error by displaying page changes concurrent to changes in coding. The program is user-friendly to programmers and designers of all levels. On one end, a site’s HTML code can be accessed and edited directly through Dreamweaver. For less expert users, the program can also hide HTML from the user, as knowledge of HTML is not necessary for program use.
